PADI DSAT Tec Deep Course

PADI DSAT Tec Deep Course - Subic, Manila, Anilao, Philippines

What is Technical Diving?

The DSAT Tec Deep course is divided up into two main sections – The Apprentice Tec (Tec Diver Level 1) and the Tec Deep Diver (Tec Diver Level 2).

The DSAT Tec Deep Diver course takes you past recreational Diving and immerses you in the world of technical Diving.

Apprentice Tec Diver Course:

The Apprentice Tec Diver Course is aimed at those divers with a clear interest in tech Diving, but who lack the prerequisite experience to fully enter the realm of tec – (or are happy to remain at this level).

The Apprentice Tec diver will be able to make gas switch, extended no-decompression dives using air and enriched air (Up to 60%) to 40 meters/130 feet using technical Diving equipment and procedures. You'll also prepare for and respond to foreseeable technical Diving emergencies. Since its part of the Tec Deep Diver course, you DSAT Apprentice Tec Dive course training credits toward the DSAT Tec Deep Diver course.

The first 3 days cover the introduction of the skills in shallow waters (or swimming pool). Diving each day and covering the first part of the theory. The next 2 days are 2 dives a day on the boat putting the skills into practice with each day Diving getting deeper or longer. After each dive, more theory is covered and then planning dives for the next day.

The DSAT Deep Tec Exam must be completed before dive 6, consisting of 100 questions of multiple choice on the theory and 20 questions of practical calculations of dive planning. Pass mark is 80% on each section of each exam. This concludes the Apprentice Tec Diver Course.

Students can either stop here and get certified as Apprentice Tec Diver or if meeting the pre-requisites for the Deep Tec Course, you many continue into that course.

What do you need to start?

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)

PADI Enriched Air Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)

PADI Deep Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)

Have a minimum of 50 logged dives, of which at least 10 must be enriched air dives, 12 must be deeper than 18 meters/60 feet and at least six must be deeper than 30 meters/100 feet

Minimum age: 18 years old

Tec Deep Diver Course:

The Tec Deep Diver course will qualify a diver to conduct gas-switch extended no-decompression dives, decompression dives and accelerated decompression dives using air and enriched air to a depth of 50 meters/165 feet. You'll also understand the hazards and risks involved in technical Diving, as well as how to prepare for and handle reasonable foreseeable technical Diving emergencies. This is the approximate equivalent to other training agencies individual courses that would include: Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, and Extended Range .

All of the training through Apprentice Tec Diver will be made and then the final 3 days are spent doing one dive a day. Each dive is a decompression dive in the range of 45-50m. There is also an additional examination over and above the Apprentice exam.

The course

DSAT Tec Deep Diver course is divided to three parts: theory, practical application and Diving sessions. There are total of six theory modules and two exams. In addition, there are also eight practical applications covering topics from gear rigging to dive planning. Three first dives can be conducted in pool, and in my opinion that's a good choice. The water is so cold, especially early in spring that it's good idea to get familiarized with one's gear in pool-like conditions. The pool sessions cover almost all the basic skills, which are done also in the open water. Generally speaking, the three first dives are practicing of some new equipment, such as double cylinders, long house routing, deco cylinders and lift bag handling in decompression stops.
